How to pick the right tee color for your design

· By matteberry

The same design can look sharp on one tee and disappear on another. Picking the right color is one of the easiest ways to make your merch look better, and it only takes a few minutes.

Start with contrast

Light designs usually stand out on dark tees, and dark designs usually stand out on light tees. A white design on a black tee pops. The same design on a white tee is gone.

Think about your brand colors

Choose a tee color that sits well with your brand palette instead of fighting it. If your brand has a signature color, try it as the tee color or as the main color in your design.

Try more than one color

Do not settle on the first color you try. Put your design on two or three different mockups and compare them side by side. You will often notice something you missed, like a thin line that vanishes or a color that turns muddy.

Watch the small details

Fine lines and small text are the first things to get lost, especially on mid-tone colors like green or blue. Look at your finished mockup at phone size, because that is how most people will see it.
